About
I’m Holly, a Brooklyn-based creator specialized in thoughtful design with a playful touch.
After 8 years in ed-tech, kids products and games remain close to my heart. I’ve spent the last 3+ years rounding out my skillset with type, layout, systems thinking (and more!) at The New York Times.

🎓 I moved to New York with a B.F.A. in Communication Design from Washington University in St. Louis to work in children’s publishing. For a few years, I freelanced for various print and digital publishers, designing calendars, book mockups, and digital magazine layouts. I hopped around between Workman Publishing, Harper Collins Children’s, Conde Nast Traveller, and Wired.
🌈 While searching for a way to combine my talents for illustration, design, and animation under one colorful umbrella, I discovered the world of kids educational apps. I got my start at Tinybop, an award-winning educational tech startup. Here, I helped design and launch a library of 16 award-winning app titles distributed around the world in 40+ languages. This small team allowed me to see apps built from start to finish, affording me skills in technical art, digital illustration, animation, art direction, UI, and UX for interactive learning.
🪁 Next, I moved on to HOMER Learning, where I joined as the first Product Designer — tasked with building a multi-subject educational app for kids 2-8. Here, I established our design team processes, built the visual product language for a new brand, started a Design Pattern Library, and transformed into a shameless Figma stan.🗞️ In 2021, I joined as the 2nd designer on a small team within the New York Times working on a delightful new experience for kids age 8-14. It was an interactive iPad app intended to help kids develop new passions, skills, and interests and connect with others doing the same 💖 This product is currently on pause, but you can still check out the @nytkids instagram - you won’t regret it!

My current obsession? All things RISO art and printing. I love how bright RISO inks are, and how accessible the printing method is for artists. I’d love to create more printed matter and illustrate a zine or booklet of sorts to share with the world - keep an eye out 👀
